IBI is investigating a group of proteins associated with brain plaque formation and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. These proteins are screened from large populations, for statistical correlation of their modifications with demographics and disease information, and better understanding of the biological processes underlying the protein phenotypes related to diseases. Just as significant is the potential of discovering other mutations and posttranslational modifications linked to disease states. The same protein phenotyping assays can also assist in the administration of drug or diet therapy, where the therapy is administered in relation to a specific protein phenotype in order to avoid adverse effects.
